Raw Chia Seeds ~ Eco Produced by VivaPure

Chia seeds are an amazing super food and chock full of essential nutrition and benefits such as healthy omega fats, protein, antioxidants, and dietary fibre, also makes an fantastic and versatile ingredient in recipes. The little chia seed goes a long way to earn its qualifier of a "super food." There is so much to be said about Chia.  These tiny little seeds have been long used by the Aztecs. In Mayan tradition, chia was eaten by runners carrying messages over far distances and would ensure they had the edurance to do it. Also known as " the running food" to the Aztec warriors during thier conquest.

Chia's most magical property of all is it's hydophilic ability (it absorbs up to 10 times its volume in water when hydrated) the seeds go all jelly like otherwise known as Chia Seed Gel. Just add 1 part chia to 3 parts water (or whatever liquid you like and allow to sit for 30 minutes, and you have Chia Gel.)

CHIA POWER:
Here are just some of what this super seed can offer you, and why it will always remain a regular staple in our diet!

* Water Loving: Chia Seeds can soak up ten times its weight in water. When inside your body, the seeds help you stay hydrated longer, and retain electrolytes in your bodily fluids.
* Easily digestible: The shells are easily broken down, even when swallowed whole. This is an improvement over flax seed, which have to be ground up to be digested properly. If you eat flax seed whole, it will just pass through.
* Highest omega 3 Essential Fatty Acids (EFA's) known in the plant world!: - provides the optimum 3:1 ratio. (the seed itself is 34% oil and of that oil 64% is Omega 3)
* Keeps things moving: chia gel is highly hydrating and is also 90% soluble fibre which is beneficial for the digestive track and bowel regularity.
* Stabilizes blood sugar: creates steady, stable blood sugar levels and energy. Great food for diabetics!
* Deep cell hydration: improving endurance and physical fitness, keeps the body hydrated and electrolytes balanced.
* Energy enhancing.
* Endurance/Tissue rejuvenation beneficial for the growth and regeneration of muscle tissue, which is exceptionally great news for athletes and sports enthusiasts.
* Chia for Weight Loss: Chia is a great support for the loss of unwanted weight, as a binder in the digestive tract the seeds offer a broom like ability in the intestines, cleansing the system of toxins. An excellent addition to a detox and weight program! They also easily bulk up the food they are added to without changing the taste, so you get fuller much quicker.
* Nutritionally stable/ Longer shelf Life: Possibly the most distinct advantage is that Chia's seriously potent in antioxidants make its delicate healthy fats more nutritionally stable than Flax Seeds (that go rancid quickly) which gives them a very long shelf life.
* Complete source of Protein: 2 times the protein of any other seed or grain.
* Packed With Calcium: and they also contain boron which is a trace mineral that is essential in helping calcium get into your bones.(about 3 tablespoons) covers nearly 20% of your calcium need for the day!
* Packed with Iron: 3 more time iron than spinach,

As an ingredient.. there are limitless ways to incorporate the virtually tasteless Chia Seeds into your culinary creativities:

* CHIA GEL: in their gel form they make the most amazing instant puddings, so are great for travelling with! - all you need is water or your favourite juice, nut milk or herb tea and something to sweetenen, just mix in by hand! Chia gel doesn't have much flavour of its own but has a kind of tapioca-like texture, which makes it a great ingredient to use in recipes. We especially like to create all kinds of puddings and porridge's, using chia as the base, or add the gel to smoothies or juices for some extra enegry .
* Chia Powder/Flour: Grinto into a powder/meal and easily added to smoothies, shakes, beverages, porridge, stirred into yogurts, mixed into dips, sauces, jams and puddings to thicken.
* Whole Crunchy Seeds: Sprinkle on cereals and salads, mixed into crackers and breads and biscuits. The seeds can also be used to replace less-healthy fat in just about any recipe.

As the forgotten food of the Aztecs, Chia is now enjoying a large resurgence in the health food community as more and more people begin to recognise the impressive nutritional profile and countless health benefits of this little tiny super star seed.
